This collection consists of photocopies of three manuscripts from the Åbo Akademis bibliotek (Åbo Akademi University Library) in Turku, Finland. All of the manuscripts are in Swedish, with no translations. Folder 1 contains four notebooks which describe a trip from Kazan' to Okhotsk, Siberia, and likely date to 1847. Two of the notebooks, which appear to be in the hand of Gabriel Plathan, cover the period 16 April - 25 May, while the remaining two, in a different hand, cover the period 16-23 April. Folder 2 contains the diary of Gabriel Plathan, Evangelical Lutheran pastor of Sitka, Alaska, covering the period 5 October 1847 through 15 February 1848. Folder 3 contains the diary of Margareta Etholén, wife of Arvid Adolf Etholén, chief manager of the Russian-American Company's operations in North America. It covers the period 1839-1845, that is, both the Etholéns' voyage to Alaska and their five-year stay in Sitka, Alaska. This folder also includes photocopies of several sketches of Rio de Janiero drawn in 1839/40; portraits of the Etholéns and several views of Sitka dating to the 1850s-1870s; and several twentieth-century newspaper articles about Sitka and the Etholéns. One of the latter is in Finnish.
